CO₂ Storage Identification

Deciding where to inject CO2 is not simple! Saline aquifers are a primary geologic formation under consideration for CO2 sequestration, but the cost and capacity of storing CO2 in these rocks are dependent on the geology, which is always uncertain. Further, the geology of these resources also varies geospatially, so the cost and capacity of CO2 sequestration sites can vary substantially from one location to another across the country. Last, knowledge of the lowest-cost CO2 sequestration locations is alone insufficient because the CO2 sources, CO2 transportation network, and existing energy infrastructure (e.g., transmission lines if the source is a power plant) can all also influence the targeted sequestration location. Carbon Solutions LLC tools offer the capability of identifying and quantifying these factors. For example, our 𝘚𝘊𝘖₂𝘛ᴾᴿᴼ tool is built to estimate the cost and capacity of CO2 storage across the country. And when combined with our 𝘕𝘐𝘊𝘖₂𝘓𝘌ᴾᴿᴼ and 𝘚𝘪𝘮𝘊𝘊𝘚ᴾᴿᴼ tools, we provide a robust and science-based guidance on where to inject CO2.
