Energy applications include CO₂ capture and storage (CCS), direct air capture (DAC), hydrogen, geothermal energy, wind energy, energy storage, and energy equity and environmental justice. We use a range of data analytics and other technical approaches including infrastructure optimization, GIScience, life cycle assessment (LCA), technoeconomic assessment (TEA), reservoir simulation, machine learning, and policy analysis. The company is fully remote with approximately 30 staff working across the United States.

Job Description: Analyst in GIS/GIScience and Coding (Fully Remote)

The 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁 will be part of a multidisciplinary team performing research and developing software for low-carbon energy applications. Project sponsors include the US Federal Government (e.g., DOE, NSF), NGOs and other non-profit institutions, and industry. The 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁 will support projects through GIS/GIScience and Coding activities.

• Manage and visualize data using GIS software such as ArcGIS and QGIS.
• Lead and support cartographic design.
• Develop and manage geodatabases.
• Write code to streamline geospatial operations including developing maps and geodatabases.

The 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁 will support several ongoing low-carbon energy projects as well as support proposal development. Example projects and tasks include:

• Develop high-impact geospatial visualizations and automate map development for Carbon Solutions’ SimCCS^PRO software and projects.
• Develop code to compile, visualize, and manage geologic data for Carbon Solutions’ SCO₂T^PRO software and projects.
• Support development of cloud-based user interfaces (UIs) for Carbon Solutions’ software including CO₂NCORD.

Minimum Job Requirements

• 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant area such as Geography, Geology, Earth/Environmental Science, Civil/Environmental/Industrial Engineering, or Computer Science.
• 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱: Demonstrated proficiency with GIS/GIScience and geospatial data management through a degree program and/or work experience, including experience with software packages such as ArcGIS and QGIS.
• 𝗖𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Demonstrated proficiency in one or more computer languages such as Julia, Python, R, or Matlab.
• 𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆: Passion, experience, and willingness to embrace Carbon Solutions’ mission to solve low-carbon energy challenges.
• 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿: Address all the minimum job requirements and why you would be a good fit for Carbon Solutions.

Desired Qualifications

• Preferred master’s degree in relevant area, or equivalent years of post-bachelor’s experience.
• Experience with coding and GIS/GIScience, such as writing scripts for geospatial analysis, [KC1] , or cloud-based data visualization and analysis.
• Experience with database management.
• Experience with geostatistics.
• Experience with Julia (existing Carbon Solutions codes are being ported to Julia).
• Experience with working in interdisciplinary teams.
• Experience with supporting and writing reports, proposals, and/or scientific papers.

Compensation/Benefits

• Annual Salary: $65k–$105k, depending on experience.
