How to Net-Zero America: Nationwide Cost and Capacity Estimates for Geologic CO2 Storage

Jonathan Ogland-Hand (Director of Energy Systems Analysis) presented a webinar on October 18th on nationwide cost and capacity estimates for geologic CO₂ storage developed using the 𝘚𝘊𝘖₂𝘛ᴾᴿᴼ software and database. We find that there is tremendous low-cost capacity for CO₂ storage, but it is not uniformly distributed across the country. Further, high capacity and injectivity are not always indicators of low-cost storage. In this webinar, we will present these results and discuss their implications for reaching net zero.

Title: Advancing Community-Driven Deployment of Carbon Management Technologies: Evaluation of Carbon Management Roundtables

Description: To help communities understand the environmental, social, and siting implications of carbon management, the Great Plains Institute (GPI) and SWCA developed a free, web-based geospatial analysis tool called the Louisiana Decision Support Tool. The Decision Support Tool was presented to communities in Louisiana through a series of four stakeholder roundtable meetings in Spring 2023, allowing community members to hear about carbon management while providing feedback to improve the siting tool. This webinar gives an overview of these roundtable events and describes how this engagement approach can be an effective way to elicit information on carbon management projects in the early stages of the planning process.
